Seiya Suzuki launched a two-run homer to highlight his four-hit, three-RBI performance on Tuesday, lifting the host Chicago Cubs to an 11-8 victory over the San Francisco Giants.
Chicago's Christopher Morel belted a three-run homer and Yan Gomes had a two-run double as part of a three-hit game. Dansby Swanson scored three times for the Cubs (75-64), who have won three games in a row and 13 of their last 18.
San Francisco's J.D. Davis belted a two-run homer among his three hits and LaMonte Wade Jr., Mike Yastrzemski and Wilmer Flores also went deep. Joc Pederson added three hits for the Giants (70-69), who have dropped five consecutive games.
Tyler Rogers issued a one-out walk to Swanson in the seventh inning before Suzuki sent a 3-1 slider over the wall in left field to forge a 6-6 tie. Suzuki's homer was his 16th of the season and second in as many days.
Luke Jackson (1-2) relieved Rogers and surrendered a wind-aided double to Jeimer Candelario. Candelario moved to third on an infield single and scored when Nick Madrigal hit a grounder to third baseman Casey Schmitt, whose throw home eluded catcher Patrick Bailey.
Morel sent a 1-2 slider from Jackson over the wall in center field to stake Chicago to a 10-6 lead.
The offensive uprising made a winner out of Drew Smyly (10-9), who struck out two in one scoreless inning of relief. Jackson picked up the loss after yielding four runs on three hits in two-thirds of an inning.
The teams each scored a run before Flores belted a solo homer off Julian Merryweather in the ninth inning. Merryweather regained his composure and got the final three outs to end the game.
Wade opened the game by depositing a first-pitch fastball from Kyle Hendricks over the wall in right-center field.
Wade Meckler added an RBI single in the second inning and Yastrzemski extended San Francisco's lead to 3-0 after he sent a changeup from Hendricks just over the wall in left-center field.
Swanson plated Nico Hoerner with a single off Jakob Junis and Candelario walked with the bases loaded to bring Chicago within a run at 3-2 in the third. Gomes followed with a double to center field that drove in both Swanson and Suzuki to give the Cubs the lead.
Pederson's RBI double leveled the contest at 4-4 before Hayden Wesneski relieved Hendricks and saw Davis hit his two-run shot in the sixth.
