Rafael Devers hit two home runs and had a season-best six RBIs in a four-hit game, David Price struck out seven in six innings, and the visiting Boston Red Sox defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 10-6 Tuesday night.
Devers extended his hitting streak to six games, over which time he is batting .556 (15-for-27), and had his fourth career multi-homer game. He has 14 home runs this season.
Christian Vazquez also homered among his three hits and had two RBIs for the Red Sox in the opener of a three-game series.
Danny Jansen hit a solo homer and had two RBIs and three hits for the Blue Jays.
Price (6-2) allowed two runs, four hits and four walks in winning his fifth straight decision over his past nine starts.
Toronto starter Trent Thornton (2-6) allowed seven runs, 11 hits and one walk in 2 2/3 innings. He had one strikeout.
The Red Sox scored four in the first. Mookie Betts singled, Devers homered, Xander Bogaerts doubled, Vazquez hit an RBI double and Jackie Bradley Jr. hit an RBI single.
The Red Sox added a run in the second. Betts singled with one out, stole second, took third on a single by Devers and scored on Bogaerts' fielder's choice grounder to second.
The Blue Jays scored once in the bottom of the second. Cavan Biggio doubled, Brandon Drury walked and Jansen hit an RBI double.
The Red Sox took a 7-1 lead in the third. Vazquez singled and Bradley doubled to start the inning, Betts walked with two outs, and Devers hit a two-run single. Sean Reid-Foley replaced Thornton and ended the inning on a groundout to shortstop by Bogaerts.
Toronto scored once in the sixth. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. walked, took second on a single by Randal Grichuk, moved to third on a groundout and scored on an infield single to shortstop by Freddy Galvis.
Reid-Foley retired all 10 batters he faced, striking out four.
Derek Law replaced Reid-Foley in the seventh and allowed Vazquez's 12th homer of the season, a solo shot with two outs.
Colten Brewer replaced Price in the bottom of the seventh and allowed Jansen's fifth homer of the season leading off the inning.
Joe Biagini walked Betts with two out in the eighth and allowed Devers' second home run.
Josh Taylor pitched around an eighth-inning single for Boston.
Ken Giles struck out two in a perfect top of the ninth.
Boston right-hander Trevor Kelley made his major league debut in the bottom of the ninth and allowed Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s two-run double and Gurriel's sacrifice fly.
