Evan Longoria homered twice among his four hits and drove in five runs, and Donovan Solano opened the game with his first homer of the season Tuesday as the visiting San Francisco Giants routed the San Diego Padres for a second straight game, 10-4.
A night after having nine extra-base hits, the Giants hit five doubles and three homers. Over the two games, the Giants scored 23 runs on 31 hits. They also scored in double figures for the third game in a row.
The beneficiary of Tuesday night's assault was Giants starter Tyler Beede (2-3), who allowed one run on four hits over seven innings. The lone run was Franmil Reyes' 25th homer of the season leading off the second inning that temporarily reduced the Giants' lead to 2-1.
Meanwhile, the Giants were scoring seven runs on 11 hits and a walk against Matt Strahm (3-7) in five innings. Strahm entered the game having allowed two home runs in each of his past six starts. On Tuesday night, he gave up three.
The first game-opening homer of Solano's career gave the Giants an immediate lead. Longoria's homer leading off the second made it 2-0. The Giants regained a two-run edge at 3-1 on back-to-back doubles by Kevin Pillar and Austin Slater in the fourth. They then broke it open with four runs in the fifth.
After Solano and Brandon Belt opened the inning with back-to-back singles, Strahm struck out Tyler Austin and retired Buster Posey on a line drive to Hunter Renfroe, who was starting in center field for the first time in his major league career.
Longoria, however, followed with a 412-foot blast that landed on the third balcony of the Western Metal Supply Co. building beyond the left field fence. The Giants added a fourth run in the inning on a single by Pillar and Slater's second RBI double.
Longoria and Pillar both finished 4-for-5. Solano and Belt were both 3-for-6 in the Giants' 17-hit attack.
The Giants led 10-1 before Wil Myers hit a two-run homer off Reyes Moronta in the eighth. Ian Kinsler added a sacrifice fly for San Diego in the ninth.
Padres third baseman Manny Machado missed the game while serving a one-game suspension. Major League Baseball earlier in the day denied Machado's appeal stemming from a June 15 ejection by plate umpire Bill Welke.
