Rougned Odor homered twice, and the struggling second baseman matched his career high with five RBIs as the Texas Rangers ended a four-game losing streak with a 9-3 win against the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday evening in Arlington, Texas.
Rangers starter Lance Lynn moved into a tie for the major league lead with his 11th win, allowing two runs and nine hits over seven innings. It was the 13th straight outing in which he pitched at least six innings.
Lynn (11-4) struck out five and didn't walk a batter while winning his fourth straight start and fifth consecutive decision.
Nomar Mazara matched his career high with four hits, including a two-run double, and Shin-Soo Choo and Elvis Andrus had two hits each for Texas.
The Angels were trying to win three straight following the death of teammate Tyler Skaggs, who was found in his team hotel room on Monday afternoon. Skaggs had been scheduled to start on Thursday.
The Angels sent Griffin Canning to the mound, and he struck out the side in the first inning, but the emotions of the week seemed to catch up with the rookie right-hander. He was removed after allowing six runs and seven hits over 3 1/3 innings. Canning (3-5) struck out six and walked three.
Luis Rengifo had three hits for the Angels, and Mike Trout had two, including his third homer in the past two games. Shohei Ohtani also had two hits for Los Angeles.
Trout belted his ninth homer of the season against the Rangers in the first inning, tying the team record for the most against a single opponent in a season. Tim Salmon had nine home runs against the Cleveland Indians in 1998, and Vladimir Guerrero did the same against the Seattle Mariners in 2005.
Overall this year, Trout has 25 homers.
Both starting pitchers got into two-out trouble in the third inning.
Trout, Ohtani and Andrelton Simmons strung together singles for a 2-1 lead before Mazara's two-run double moved the Rangers ahead 3-2.
Odor, who had struck out in each of his five previous at-bats and hasn't had his average over .200 since early April, hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning to make it 5-2. He added a three-run blast, his 12th of the year, in the seventh for a 9-2 lead.
