Stephen Vogt and Brandon Crawford hit home runs within a three-pitch span of the fourth inning and right-hander Dereck Rodriguez made a successful return to starting with five solid innings Monday night, allowing the San Francisco Giants to complete a doubleheader sweep of the host Colorado Rockies with a 2-1 win in the nightcap.
Crawford homered twice and drove in a career-high eight runs in the opener, which the Giants dominated with their bats in a 19-2 romp.
Right-hander Chi Chi Gonzalez (0-2) cooled down the Giants' bats in the nightcap, limiting them to one hit before Vogt hit his third pitch of the fourth inning over the fence in right field for his third homer of the season.
Two pitches later, Crawford made it 2-0 with his third homer of the day and ninth of the year.
Rodriguez (4-5), who had not made a start since May 10, blanked the Rockies on two hits until the fifth, when Raimel Tapia singled, took second on an infield out and scored on a double by Garrett Hampson.
Hampson was thrown out at third on the play, the second time he short-circuited potential uprisings by getting gunned down from the outfield at third.
Rodriguez was lifted after five innings, having allowed just the one run on four hits. He struck out six and did not issue a walk.
Reyes Moronta, Tony Watson, Sam Dyson and Will Smith pitched one shutout inning apiece to nail down the Giants' third straight win and 10th in their last 12 games.
Smith recorded his 24th save after walking Trevor Story to open the ninth. The left-hander then retired the next three Rockies in order on grounders.
Vogt finished with two hits for the Giants, whose sweep moved them within one game of the third-place Rockies in a four-team logjam below the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West.
Tapia had a double and a single for the Rockies, who have lost nine of their last 11.
Gonzalez was charged with two runs on five hits in five innings. He walked three and struck out four.
