Dustin Garneau and Stephen Piscotty each hit three-run home runs, and the Oakland Athletics cruised to an 11-4 win over the host Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night.
Piscotty added a run-scoring single to finish with four RBIs for Oakland, which earned its seventh win in nine games. Matt Olson added a pair of RBIs, while Mark Canha and Chad Pinder drove in one run apiece.
Kris Bryant hit a two-run homer for the Cubs, whose four-game winning streak came to an end. Kyle Schwarber also drove in two runs.
Oakland left-hander Brett Anderson (10-7) posted a quality start and reached double-digit victories for the first time since 2015. He held the Cubs to two runs on seven hits in six innings, walking one and striking out three.
Cubs left-hander Jon Lester (9-8) gave up 11 runs (10 earned) on 10 hits in four innings. He walked three and struck out six as his ERA ballooned from 3.86 to 4.46.
The A's pounced on Lester for eight runs in the second inning.
Canha started the outburst when he tripled to lead off the inning and came home to score on a one-out single to right field by Piscotty. Robbie Grossman's single put two runners on base for Garneau, who clubbed a three-run shot over the wall in left field to make it 4-0. It was Garneau's third homer of the season and only the eighth of his five-season career.
Olson added a two-run single several batters later. Matt Chapman scored on an error by Victor Caratini and Olson scored on a groundout by Pinder before the inning was over.
A bad night grew worse for Lester in the fourth. He walked Chapman to lead off the inning and allowed a two-out single to Pinder before surrendering a three-run shot to Piscotty to make it 11-0. Piscotty turned on a 1-1 pitch and drove it to left field for his 10th homer.
The Cubs broke the shutout in the sixth on a mammoth home run by Bryant that traveled an estimated 439 feet. He took Anderson deep to left field for his 22nd homer of the season and his first in the past 10 games.
Schwarber added a two-run single in the ninth.
