Franmil Reyes laced a three-run double in the first inning, and Jake Bauers and Carlos Santana homered to lift the host Cleveland Indians to an 11-3 victory over the White Sox on Monday night, sending Chicago to its seventh consecutive defeat.
Cleveland snapped a three-game skid behind a patient, 11-hit attack. Six of the 10 Indians batters who walked came around to score.
Facing the Indians for the first time in his major league career, veteran Chicago left-hander Ross Detwiler struggled with his command throughout an abbreviated outing. Detwiler threw just 41 of his 81 pitches for strikes while walking six in 2 2/3 innings, yielding four runs and four hits without a strikeout.
Detwiler (2-5) exited after allowing Mike Freeman's sacrifice fly in the third.
Chicago pitching didn't record a strikeout until reliever Carson Fulmer fanned Reyes to end the fourth inning. Bauers extended the Cleveland lead to 6-2 one batter earlier, homering to left field to score Yasiel Puig, who reached base with a two-out double.
Indians rookie right-hander Aaron Civale (3-3) allowed three runs, one earned, and seven hits in five innings with three walks and four strikeouts.
The White Sox loaded the bases against the Cleveland bullpen in the seventh and eighth innings but were unable to score.
Jose Abreu drove in Chicago's first run with an RBI groundout in the third inning. Yolmer Sanchez doubled home a run in the fourth, and Yoan Moncada hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth.
The White Sox have allowed 58 runs during their losing streak, which has tied a season high. Chicago also lost seven straight immediately after the All-Star break.
Cleveland remained 5 1/2 games behind the first-place Minnesota Twins in the American League Central while staying a half-game behind the Tampa Bay Rays for the top American League wild card.
Indians catcher Roberto Perez left the game before the sixth inning due to a left foot contusion. He was replaced by Kevin Plawecki.
Francisco Lindor, Santana, Reyes and Perez had two hits each for the Indians.
Leury Garcia paced Chicago with three hits while Tim Anderson and Eloy Jimenez had two apiece.
