Trey Mancini homered and drove in three runs, DJ Stewart added a two-run blast, and the Baltimore Orioles defeated the host Detroit Tigers 6-2 on Friday.
Aaron Brooks (5-8) earned the victory while giving up two runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings. Jonathan Villar added two hits, a run scored and a stolen base for the Orioles.
The Orioles' Mason Williams walked twice, scored a run and drove in another in the opener of a four-game series between the teams with the majors' worst records.
Tigers starter Jordan Zimmermann (1-11) allowed four runs on eight hits in five innings. Jordy Mercer supplied three hits, a run scored and an RBI.
Baltimore struck in the first when leadoff hitter Villar reached on an infield single, stole second, moved up on a groundout and scored on Mancini's single.
Detroit stranded two runners in the bottom of the inning as Dawel Lugo grounded out.
The Tigers had a threat going in the fourth when Mercer smacked a two-out double. He tried to score on Travis Demeritte's infield single but was thrown out at the plate.
The Orioles stretched their lead to 4-0 in the fifth. Stevie Wilkerson led off with a double, and Stewart pulled a Zimmermann slider that struck the right field foul pole. Chance Sisco followed with a single and moved to third on a Villar double. Sisco scored on Williams' groundout.
Detroit had two runners on base again in the bottom of the inning before Brooks retired Miguel Cabrera on a fly out to left-center.
Detroit's Zac Reininger walked the bases loaded in the top of the sixth but got out of the jam by striking out Villar.
Christin Stewart led off the bottom of the inning with a double, leading to a two-run rally. Mercer drove him in with a one-out single. Mercer later scored on Willi Castro's bloop hit.
Mancini's two-run shot in the seventh increased Baltimore's advantage to 6-2. Williams walked prior to Mancini's blast to right field, his 31st homer of the season.
