San Francisco @ Colorado preview

Coors Field

Last Meeting ( Jun 2, 2010 ) Colorado 1, San Francisco 4

The San Francisco Giants have not fared well on the road lately. But considering how their recently completed homestand went, anywhere but AT&T Park would be a welcome sight.

The Giants look to snap their five-game losing streak Thursday night when they begin a four-game series against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field.

After beginning its six-game homestand with a 5-4 victory over the Boston Red Sox, San Francisco went in the tank, dropping the five remaining contests while scoring fewer than three runs in each.

Overall, the Giants crossed the plate just 14 times during the homestand, which saw them get swept by the rival Los Angeles Dodgers on their own field for the first time since July 2007.

San Francisco managed just seven hits in an 8-2 setback on Wednesday. Three came off the bat of Aaron Rowand, with one being the center fielder's seventh home run of the season.

The road has not been much kinder to the Giants, who have lost six of their last eight games away from home. Thursday's contest is the opener of a season-high 11-game road trip.

Getting the start for San Francisco is rookie Madison Bumgarner. The 20-year old left-hander was recalled from Triple-A Fresno on Saturday and made his season debut, allowing four runs and five hits in seven innings of a 4-2 loss to Boston.

Drafted fourth overall in 2007, Bumgarner was 7-1 at Fresno before joining the Giants. He made his major league debut last season, going 0-0 with a 1.80 ERA in four appearances – including one start.

Opposing Bumgarner will be Aaron Cook, who is seeking his first win since May 29. Cook is 0-2 in his last five starts and just 1-3 in his last 11 outings.

The 31-year old has notched both of his victories this year at home, posting a 2.40 ERA in six starts at Coors Field.

Cook owns a record of 7-10 with a 4.99 ERA in 26 career games, including five relief appearances, against San Francisco. On April 30, the right-hander surrendered five runs and seven hits over six innings of a 5-2 loss at AT&T Park.

Pat Burrell, who joined the Giants in early June, has had tremendous success against Cook over his career, hitting .632 (12-for-19) with one homer and five RBIs.

Thursday's game is the opener of a 10-game homestand for the Rockies, who have won seven of their last nine here.

Colorado completed a 3-3 road trip on Wednesday with a 13-3 loss at San Diego. Jonathan Herrera drove in two of the Rockies' runs with a double in the second inning that tied the game, but Jeff Francis lasted just three-plus frames, yielding eight runs and seven hits with three walks.

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
