Last Meeting ( Jun 17, 2010 ) LA Dodgers 1, Cincinnati 7

The Cincinnati Reds attempt to keep their hire-octane road act going this weekend when they visit the Los Angeles Dodgers in a three-game series that begins Friday.

The Reds have won seven straight road games and have scored nine runs or more four times during the streak. Cincinnati tallied 26 runs in a three-game sweep of Arizona that concluded with Thursday’s 9-5 victory.

The road winning streak couldn’t come at a better time in relation to visiting Los Angeles. Cincinnati has lost 12 straight games at Dodger Stadium dating to the 2006 season.

Cincinnati’s 8-1 road record in August has helped the Reds take a season-best 3 1/2-game lead over the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Central.

The Reds lost three straight home games to the Cardinals on Aug. 9-11 but have since rebounded with a season-high six consecutive victories.

Cincinnati’s 34-25 road record is second best in the NL behind the San Diego Padres (37-25) and highly instrumental in the team’s surprising success. At 70-51, the Reds have the NL’s third-best record behind the Padres and Atlanta Braves.

The Reds were glad to see first baseman Joey Votto back in the lineup Thursday after he missed Wednesday’s game with back problems. The Most Valuable Player candidate had two RBIs on Thursday to raise his season count to 81.

Votto is batting .323 with 28 homers and the biggest reason why the Reds lead the NL with 602 runs scored.

Catcher Ramon Hernandez has also been swinging a hot bat for Cincinnati. Hernandez is batting .464 (13-for-28) over his last seven games and had a three-run homer in Thursday’s victory.

Vicente Padilla was scheduled to start today’s series opener for the Dodgers but the veteran right-hander was placed on the disabled list Thursday with a bulging disk in his neck.

Carlos Monasterios will start in Padilla’s place. Monasterios is making his ninth start of the season and his first since July 30th. He is 3-3 with a 3.72 earned-run average.

Homer Bailey (2-2, 4.92 ERA) will be on the mound for Cincinnati. Bailey is making his second start since coming off the disabled list.

He threw six shutout innings of three-hit ball against Florida in his return for his second win of the season. The start was his first since May 23 against Cleveland, when he left after 2 1/3 innings with shoulder stiffness.

Dodgers center fielder Matt Kemp went 0-for-4 on Thursday in a victory over Colorado and is hitting .050 (1-for-20) over the last six games.

However, Kemp has fared well against Bailey, going 4-for-8 with a homer.

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
