New York @ Arizona preview

Chase Field

Last Meeting ( May 16, 2016 ) NY Yankees 2, Arizona 12

Zack Greinke hasn't lived up to this year's $31 million salary or his ace billing yet but gets another chance to begin a lengthy roll when the Arizona Diamondbacks host the New York Yankees on Tuesday. Greinke has a hefty 5.26 ERA after eight starts with the Diamondbacks and already has lost as many games as he did last season, when he went 19-3 with a 1.66 ERA for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Greinke has been abysmal at home with a 1-3 record, 7.28 ERA and .344 batting average against. The Diamondbacks are only 6-16 at Chase Field after ending a seven-game home skid - and five-game overall losing streak - with a 12-2 victory over the Yankees in Monday's series opener. Arizona's Jake Lamb went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer after going 3-for-24 over his previous six games to help send New York to just its fourth defeat in its past 11 contests. New York's Alex Rodriguez (hamstring) took batting practice prior to Monday's game and manager Joe Girardi told reporters he expects the veteran to be activated on Thursday.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Yankees RH Michael Pineda (1-4, 6.28 ERA) vs. Diamondbacks RH Zack Greinke (3-3, 5.26)

Pineda, who has lost four straight decisions, was pushed back a day after being torched for six runs and six hits over 5 2/3 innings in a loss to Kansas City in his last turn. That rocky outing marked the third time in seven starts this season he has yielded six or more runs. Pineda has allowed 49 hits - including nine homers - in 38 2/3 innings and opponents are hitting .306 against him.

Greinke has allowed four or more runs in four of his eight starts after giving up more than three just twice in 32 starts with the Dodgers last year. He lost to San Francisco - at home - in his last turn, when he gave up four runs and eight hits in six innings. Greinke is 2-4 with a 5.92 ERA in 12 career appearances (nine starts) against the Yankees and has struggled versus Mark Teixeira (5-for-13, one homer).

WALK-OFFS

1. Teixeira recorded three hits in the series opener but has gone 28 games without a homer and last recorded an RBI on May 1.

2. Arizona scored just seven runs over its previous four games before matching its season high in the opener and belting out 15 hits.

3. New York 3B Chase Headley is 10-for-30 with two homers and seven RBIs over his last 10 games after batting .151 with two RBIs in his first 73 at-bats.

PREDICTION: Yankees 6, Diamondbacks 5

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
