Atlanta @ San Francisco preview

AT&T Park

Last Meeting ( Aug 26, 2012 ) Atlanta 7, San Francisco 1

The Atlanta Braves and San Francisco Giants have a little momentum when they open up a four-game series at AT&T Park on Thursday. The visiting Braves are coming off a series win in Cincinnati that was capped by a 7-2 victory in Wednesday's finale. Dan Uggla homered twice and Juan Francisco added a grand slam as Atlanta began its second 10-game road trip of the season with a solid showing against the Reds.

The Giants blew a lead in the ninth inning before rallying in the 10th to upend the Philadelphia Phillies 4-3 on Wednesday. It helped San Francisco avoid a series sweep and gave the Giants 12 home wins, second-most in the National League. Although closer Sergio Romo blew the save, San Francisco still improved to 14-0 when leading after eight innings. The Giants split four games at home against Atlanta last August.

PITCHING MATCHUP
: Braves RH Julio Teheran (1-0, 5.08 ERA) vs. Giants RH Ryan Vogelsong (1-2, 7.20)

The Braves have won all five of Teheran's starts. Early on they were doing so despite the 22-year-old's shakiness, but he has carried his weight a bit more of late. Teheran is 1-0 with a 2.19 ERA in his last two starts, during which he has walked only one and has kept everything in the park. Teheran gave up a career-high 10 hits against Washington in his last start April 29, but nine of them were singles, which helped Atlanta survive a tight affair. Teheran's next scheduled outing versus the New York Mets was postponed by rain. He has never faced San Francisco.

Vogelsong's struggles continued in a dramatic way Saturday against the Los Angeles Dodgers, who got to him for seven runs in 4 2/3 innings. Vogelsong gave up a season high-tying nine hits as he blew an early five-run lead and remained winless at home. The 35-year-old has given up at least one home run in each of his last five outings and has one quality start out of six total appearances in 2013. Vogelsong was 1-0 with a 2.92 ERA in two starts against the Braves last year.

WALK-OFFS

1. Vogelsong has a .347 batting average against at home.

2. Giants 2B Marco Scutaro is 15-for-31 during an eight-game hitting streak.

3. Uggla has five extra-base hits (three homers, two triples) in his last six games. He had a total of five extra-base hits (four homers, one double) in his first 25 contests.

PREDICTION: Giants 6, Braves 5

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
