Texas @ Chicago preview
Wrigley Field
Last Meeting ( Apr 18, 2013 ) Texas 2, Chi. Cubs 6
Scott Feldman missed his former team the first time the Texas Rangers visited Wrigley Field, but the Chicago Cubs right-hander will get another shot when the teams make up an earlier rainout Monday night. The teams split a pair of games April 16 and 18 with the middle game of the set washed out. The American League West-leading Rangers are coming off a three-game home sweep of Boston and are beginning a nine-game road trip.
Feldman is the only Cubs starter with a win in Chicago's last eight games, and the Cubs need another strong outing from him after dropping four straight. Chicago is 2-5 thus far on its 10-game homestand, which wraps up with two against rival St. Louis on Tuesday and Wednesday. Rangers DH Lance Berkman is likely to be on the bench in the National League park. Berkman is a career .215 hitter in 83 games at Wrigley Field.
TV: 8:05 p.m. ET, Fox Sports Southwest (Texas), WCIU (Chicago)
PITCHING MATCHUP: Rangers RH Nick Tepesch (2-2, 3.54 ERA) vs. Cubs RH Scott Feldman (2-3, 3.34)
Tepesch has turned in two outstanding performances in his first five major-league starts, but he has been inconsistent. He was tagged for five runs in 6 2/3 innings last time out against the Chicago White Sox and was hung with the loss. The 24-year-old rookie has never pitched against the Cubs.
Feldman has won two straight starts and the last one arguably was the best of his career. He struck out 12 in his first complete game, allowing only a pair of solo homers and one more hit while beating San Diego. Feldman missed one turn in the rotation early in the year with a tight back, and he has been solid ever since.
