AT&T Park

Last Meeting ( May 7, 2013 ) Philadelphia 6, San Francisco 2

The Philadelphia Phillies look for a sweep of the host San Francisco Giants on Wednesday after winning the first two games by identical 6-2 scores. The Phillies have won seven of their last 10 games at AT&T Park, and are seeking their first sweep in San Francisco since 1984. Second baseman Chase Utley had three hits and a home run Tuesday, but double-play partner Jimmy Rollins’ struggles continued with one hit in five at-bats. Rollins’ 3-for-27 skid has dropped his average to .234.

While Rollins has an extensive track record of success, Giants first baseman Brandon Belt remains a mystery. The 25-year-old is batting .216 after collecting two hits in his last 20 at-bats. He appeared to find his swing after being dropped to eighth in the order, but his inconsistency is becoming an issue for the Giants. Brett Pill is batting .356 with seven homers and 36 RBIs for Triple-A Fresno, but the 28-year-old first baseman hit .210 in 105 at-bats with San Francisco last season.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Phillies RH Jonathan Pettibone (2-0, 3.24 ERA) vs. Giants LH Barry Zito (3-1, 3.06)

Pettibone has proven to be a capable replacement for fifth starter John Lannan (quad), who’s expected to miss another 4-to-5 weeks. The 22-year-old right-hander owns a 13-to-2 strikeout-to-walk ratio after allowing one run on five hits over 6 1/3 innings against Miami on Friday. He allowed three home runs in his first three outings, but the Phillies have gone 3-0 in his starts. “I just wanted to make a statement when I got here and stay aggressive,” Pettibone told reporters. “I’ve been able to do that since I’ve been up here.”

Zito has experienced some trouble on the road this season, but is 3-0 with a 0.35 ERA in four home starts. He received his second straight no-decision Friday against the Dodgers when he allowed one run over five innings. The 35-year-old is 3-3 with a 4.60 ERA in seven career starts against the Phillies, but has posted a 6.16 ERA over his last three outings. John Mayberry Jr. is 4-for-6 with three homers against Zito, who gave up three runs over seven innings in his only start against the Phillies last season.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Phillies announced that RHP Tyler Cloyd will start Friday in Arizona in place of injured ace Roy Halladay.

2. Giants CF Angel Pagan went 0-for-3 on Tuesday after missing the previous two games with a strained right hamstring.

3. Philadelphia is 12-1 when leading after seven innings.

PREDICTION: Giants 6, Phillies 3

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
