Los Angeles @ Chicago preview
Guaranteed Rate Field
Last Meeting ( May 10, 2013 ) LA Angels 7, Chi. White Sox 5
If the Los Angeles Angels are going to meet their lofty expectations, the turnaround has to start somewhere. Consecutive gut-check wins that required a little from a lot of guys certainly can't hurt. The Angels seek their second three-game winning streak when they continue a three-game series with the host Chicago White Sox on Saturday. Los Angeles got a mammoth effort from its bullpen and two runs in the seventh inning to record a 7-5 victory in the opener.
After rallying to win the finale in Houston despite an umpiring gaffe that went against the Angels, they were forced to use an emergency starter Friday when scheduled starter Tommy Hanson needed to tend to a family matter. It has made for two straight victories that lack style points but count just the same, which is all Los Angeles can ask for amid a horrible start. The White Sox have lost three straight at home and seven of their last 11 overall.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Angels RH Jerome Williams (1-1, 3.16 ERA) vs. LH Jose Quintana (2-0, 3.86)
Williams is making his second straight start after his first eight appearances came out of the bullpen. He gave up five runs on four hits in 4 1/3 innings Sunday against Baltimore. Two of the four hits left the yard and Williams walked three. The 31-year-old was 6-8 with a 4.83 ERA in 15 starts for the Angels last year, a showing that included eight solid innings against the White Sox on May 16. In that start, Williams yielded two runs and did not walk a batter. He owns a 2.76 ERA in four games (two starts) against Chicago.
After a pair of scoreless outings, Quintana has given up nine runs in 15 innings over three starts, lasting five innings in each appearance. He gave up three runs in Chicago's 6-5 loss at Kansas City on Sunday. The left-hander struck out 17 and walked four in his first three starts. He has fanned eight and walked five in his last three. Quintana allowed four runs (one earned) on six hits and five walks in five innings in his only prior meeting with Los Angeles.
