Kansas City @ Los Angeles preview

Angel Stadium of Anaheim

Last Meeting ( May 14, 2013 ) Kansas City 2, LA Angels 6

The Los Angeles Angels will try to win back-to-back series for the first time this season when they host the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday. Kansas City wore out the Angels with 19 hits in Monday’s opener and designated hitter Billy Butler went 5-for-5 in the 11-4 victory. The Angels came back with four solo homers in Tuesday’s 6-2 win, scoring in five consecutive innings after not plating a run in four straight all season.

Butler came back with a double and home run Tuesday and slowing him down should be priority No. 1 for the Angels. He needs one more home run to tie Bo Jackson for No. 10 on Kansas City’s all-time list. The Big Three for the Angels - first baseman Albert Pujols, and outfielders Josh Hamilton and Mike Trout - also went deep Tuesday, the first time that’s happened in the same game. Los Angeles second baseman Howie Kendrick has a home run and two singles in his last three at-bats after going hitless in his previous 15.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Royals RH Wade Davis (2-3, 5.86 ERA) vs. Angels RH Barry Enright (0-1, 11.37)

Davis resumed his role as a starter this season but the change of scenery hasn’t worked any better than previous years. His first 64 appearances in the majors came as a starter, when he posted a 25-22 record for the Tampa Bay Rays from 2009-11. That wasn’t enough to maintain his spot in the rotation, however. He was delegated to the bullpen last season, where he went 3-0 with a 2.43 ERA in 54 relief appearances. The Rays sent him to Kansas City along with right-hander James Shields in the off-season and he’s still trying to find his niche.

Enright will make his second consecutive start in place of Tommy Hanson, who is on the restricted list as he deals with a personal matter. Enright had a rough start Friday against the Chicago White Sox, giving up a leadoff home run followed by a single before retiring nine straight. He got into trouble again in the fourth and was ultimately lifted after allowing five runs and four hits in 3 1/3 innings. The bullpen shut out the White Sox the rest of the way, however, allowing the Angels to hold on for a 7-5 victory. Enright has never faced Kansas City in his four-year career, but has surrendered home runs to Miguel Tejada and Alcides Escobar.

WALK-OFFS

1. Hamilton is 4-for-4 against Davis with two doubles and a home run.

2. Angels SS Erick Aybar has missed 22 games this season because of injury, but has hit safely in 14 of the other 17.

3. Kansas City's Lorenzo Cain batted leadoff for the first time this season Tuesday night and went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts and a walk.

PREDICTION: Royals 9, Angels 4

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
