Arizona @ Chicago preview

Wrigley Field

Last Meeting ( Jun 1, 2013 ) Arizona 12, Chi. Cubs 4

Patrick Corbin can become the first nine-game winner in the majors when he takes the mound for the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks in Sunday's series finale against the Chicago Cubs. The undefeated Corbin may be the biggest surprise of the young season following a 2012 rookie campaign in which he went 6-8 with a 4.54 ERA. Arizona got a tiebreaking grand slam from Paul Goldschmidt and amassed season highs in runs and hits (17) in Saturday's 12-4 rout.

A meltdown by the bullpen halted Chicago's season-high five-game winning streak. The Cubs had won four in a row against the Diamondbacks at Wrigley Field before Arizona erupted for 11 runs over the final three innings. Chicago had piled up 36 runs during its winning streak but managed only three hits - two by Nate Schierholtz - in Saturday's loss.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Diamondbacks LH Patrick Corbin (8-0, 1.71 ERA) vs. Cubs RH Edwin Jackson (1-7, 6.11)

The 23-year-old Corbin is coming off his worst outing of the season, when he gave up four runs - three earned - in six innings of a 6-5 win over San Diego. It was the first time Corbin has surrendered more than two runs in 10 starts. In his previous four outings, Corbin yielded only three runs and 15 hits over 29 1/3 frames.

Jackson should be plenty rested after having his last start wiped out by rain in the third inning and his previous outing curtailed by a rain delay. He lost his first five decisions - not what the Cubs were expecting when they signed him to a four-year, $52 million pact. Jackson is 0-4 with an unsightly 7.81 ERA in five starts at Wrigley.

WALK-OFFS

1. Corbin is 3-0 with a 1.73 ERA in five road starts.

2. Cubs SS Starlin Castro played in his 250th consecutive game Saturday, the longest active streak in the National League.

3. Diamondbacks 2B Willie Bloomquist, sidelined with an oblique tear since spring training, had three hits in his season debut Saturday.

PREDICTION: Diamondbacks 5, Cubs 3

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
