Last Meeting ( May 22, 2013 ) Philadelphia 3, Miami 0

After dropping two of three to one last-place team, the Philadelphia Phillies will try to turn things around against the Miami Marlins, who bring the worst record in the majors - and a three-game winning streak - into a three-game set starting Monday. The Phillies snapped a three-game skid Sunday with a 7-5 win against Milwaukee. Miami had lost nine straight and 16 of 18 before taking three from the New York Mets over the weekend - the Marlins' first series sweep of the season.

The teams are meeting for the fourth time this season with the Phillies taking two of three in two of the series and the squads splitting four games in the only previous meeting in Philadelphia. Domonic Brown continues to swing a hot bat for Philadelphia, going 3-for-3 with his National League-leading 16th home run in the series finale with the Brewers.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Marlins RH Tom Koehler (0-3, 3.22 ERA) vs. Phillies RH Kyle Kendrick (5-3, 3.27)

Koehler is still in search of his first big-league win, but he has been solid since joining the rotation, allowing three runs or fewer in each of his four starts. He recorded his third straight quality start Wednesday, holding Tampa Bay to three runs on seven hits in eight innings, but still took the loss.

Kendrick has enjoyed great success against the Marlins, going 11-2 with a 3.62 ERA in 20 games (15 starts), including a win May 2 in which he held Miami to two runs over seven innings. He had lost two straight starts before a quality outing Wednesday against Boston in which he allowed two runs on four hits in six innings and earned his first win since May 7.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Marlins plan to activate 1B Casey Kotchman from the disabled list Monday. Kotchman started the season 0-for-5 before suffering a strained left hamstring on April 3 and missing 55 games.

2. Brown has hit seven home runs during a seven-game hitting streak.

3. Marlins OF Chris Coghlan has hit safely in nine straight contests, including a four-hit game Sunday. Coghlan is 5-for-12 against Kendrick.

PREDICTION: Phillies 5, Marlins 4

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
