Los Angeles @ Los Angeles preview
Angel Stadium of Anaheim
Last Meeting ( May 28, 2013 ) LA Angels 0, LA Dodgers 3
The Los Angeles Dodgers suddenly have something to build on heading into Wednesday’s game against the host Los Angeles Angels. The Dodgers rallied from a five-run deficit to defeat the Angels on Monday and benefited from a two-hit shutout from left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu on Tuesday. The Angels came into the series riding a season-long eight-game winning streak, but despite the losses remain 6 1/2 games back in the American League wild-card race.
The Dodgers dropped struggling outfielder Matt Kemp from No. 3 to No. 5 in the batting order Tuesday and he responded with a double in the sixth inning and later came around to score. Still, manager Don Mattingly had to remove him in the bottom of the ninth after he complained of elbow soreness as a result of getting hit by a pitch in the second inning. Angels right-hander Jered Weaver makes his first start since fracturing his left elbow April 7.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Dodgers LH Chris Capuano (1-3, 5.60 ERA) vs. Angels RH Jered Weaver (0-1, 4.91)
Capuano hasn’t been the same pitcher since he recorded his only career victory against the Angels last June. He went seven innings in that game, allowing one run and seven hits in the 3-1 victory at Angel Stadium to improve to 9-2 on the season. He has gone 4-13 since. His lone victory this season came against the Miami Marlins, the lowest-scoring team in the majors. The player Capuano needs to be careful with is first baseman Albert Pujols, who is 21-for-38 in his career against the left-hander with five home runs and 12 RBIs.
Weaver suffered the injury while trying to dodge a comebacker against the Texas Rangers. He has made nine career starts against the Dodgers and owns a 5-2 record and a 2.63 ERA. He hasn’t faced the Dodgers since 2011, however. He made back-to-back starts against the Dodgers that summer, allowing a combined two runs and 11 hits in 15 innings. Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez are the only Dodgers with decent success against Weaver. Crawford is 5-for-15 with a home run and Gonzalez is 3-for-10.
WALK-OFFS
1. The Angels learned Tuesday that longtime team physician Dr. Lewis Yocum died of cancer over the weekend.
2. Gonzalez had nine hits in 11 at-bats before going 0-for-4 on Tuesday.
3. Dodgers pitchers Zack Greinke, Clayton Kershaw and Ryu are a combined .267 at the plate this season.
