Milwaukee @ Minnesota preview
Target Field
Last Meeting ( May 28, 2013 ) Minnesota 6, Milwaukee 5
It hasn't been a month to remember for the Minnesota Twins and Milwaukee Brewers, who have combined for a staggering 36 losses in May. The Twins have bounced back from a 10-game skid by winning three of their last four, including back-to-back victories in Milwaukee. The series shifts to Minnesota for two games Wednesday and Thursday, and both teams will be looking for solid outings from their starters after using a combined 16 pitchers in Tuesday's 14-inning marathon.
The Twins rank among the league's worst teams in the power department, but they went deep five times in the two games in Milwaukee. Minnesota is struggling overall at the plate, with five regulars batting .214 or lower. One constant for the Brewers has been shortstop Jean Segura, who had a career-high six hits in seven at-bats in Tuesday's game. Segura is 10-for-15 in his last three games to take over the National League lead with a robust .365 average.
TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, Fox Sports Wisconsin (Milwaukee), Fox Sports North (Minnesota)
PITCHING MATCHUP: Brewers RH Marco Estrada (4-2, 4.94 ERA) vs. Twins RH Samuel Deduno (0-1, 10.13)
Estrada is coming off a dominant performance in his last start, tying his season high with eight strikeouts and limiting Pittsburgh to one run on four hits over seven innings. He also did not walk a batter after issuing 10 free passes in his three previous starts. Estrada has been much more consistent on the road, posting a 2-1 mark and 3.09 ERA in five starts as opposed to a 2-1 record and a 7.18 ERA in five outings at Miller Park.
Deduno had a rocky season debut, getting roughed up by the Detroit Tigers for six runs and nine hits in 5 1/3 innings. He suffered a groin injury during the World Baseball Classic and opened the season in the minors. Deduno made 15 starts in 2012, posting a 6-5 record with a 4.44 ERA. He had major control issues throughout that seasons, striking out 57 and walking 53 batters, including at least five on six occasions.
