Last Meeting ( May 31, 2013 ) San Francisco 0, St. Louis 0

The San Francisco Giants and host St. Louis Cardinals will try to squeeze in a day-night doubleheader on Saturday after Friday’s series opener was wiped out by extreme weather that carried over from the night before, when the Cardinals had to sit through a 4 1/2-hour rain delay in a 4-2 loss to the visiting Kansas City Royals. The Giants avoided losing four straight against the Oakland Athletics by winning Thursday's series finale, 5-2.

The Cardinals did not lose two in a row the entire month of May while posting a 20-7 record. Their two hottest hitters were catcher Yadier Molina, who has 14 hits in his last 24 at-bats, and first baseman Allen Craig, who’s eight for his last 15. San Francisco second baseman Marco Scutaro missed Thursday's game against Oakland with an illness. Scutaro hit a major-league leading .420 in the month of May.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Giants RH Matt Cain (4-2, 5.00 ERA) vs. Cardinals RH Shelby Miller (5-3, 2.02)

Cain won four games in May for the second consecutive season and will try to duplicate that feat in June. He sandwiched two strong starts around his only poor one last month and was supported nicely by the offense, which averaged 6.2 runs in those five outings. Cain is 2-4 with a 6.18 ERA in nine career starts against the Cardinals.

Miller hasn’t finished the sixth inning in his last three starts after throwing a one-hitter May 10 in a 3-0 victory against the Colorado Rockies. The 22-year-old rookie has been comfortable at Busch Stadium, posting a 2-1 record with a 0.99 ERA. He made his major-league debut against the Giants on April 6, allowing two runs in 5 1/3 innings of a 6-3 win.

WALK-OFFS:

1. Giants OF Angels Pagan is expected to return Saturday after missing the last five games with a hamstring strain.

2. Giants 3B Pablo Sandoval will miss the series and possibly a week with a strained left foot.

3. Friday’s postponement was the first at Busch Stadium since April 19, 2011.

PREDICTION: Cardinals 5, Giants 2

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
