San Francisco @ St. Louis preview
Busch Stadium
Last Meeting ( Jun 1, 2013 ) San Francisco 0, St. Louis 8
The San Francisco Giants and host St. Louis Cardinals will try to squeeze in a day-night doubleheader on Saturday after Friday’s series opener was wiped out by extreme weather that carried over from the night before, when the Cardinals had to sit through a 4 1/2-hour rain delay in a 4-2 loss to the visiting Kansas City Royals. The Giants avoided losing four straight against the Oakland Athletics by winning Thursday's series finale, 5-2.
The Cardinals did not lose two in a row the entire month of May while posting a 20-7 record. Their two hottest hitters were catcher Yadier Molina, who has 14 hits in his last 24 at-bats, and first baseman Allen Craig, who’s eight for his last 15. San Francisco second baseman Marco Scutaro missed Thursday's game against Oakland with an illness. Scutaro hit a major-league leading .420 in the month of May.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Giants LH Madison Bumgarner (4-3, 3.13 ERA) vs. Cardinals RH Adam Wainwright (7-3, 2.48)
Bumgarner is happy to see the calendar turn to June after posting a 1-3 record with a 5.17 ERA in five starts in May, the only month in his career in which he owns a losing record. After the offense combined for 19 runs in back-to-back starts against the Atlanta Braves and Colorado Rockies, the Giants combined for two in his last two outings against the Washington Nationals and Athletics -- both resulting in losses.
Wainwright posted his first victory of the season against the Giants and has continued to own National League West teams this spring. He threw a two-hitter against the Rockies on May 11 and allowed one earned run and four hits in 7 1/3 innings of a 10-2 victory against the San Diego Padres on May 21. Wainwright in 3-4 in his career against the Giants with a 2.98 ERA and has allowed one home run in 54 1/3 innings.
