Los Angeles @ Los Angeles preview
Angel Stadium of Anaheim
Last Meeting ( May 29, 2013 ) LA Dodgers 3, LA Angels 4
The home team has claimed victory in the first three meetings this week between the Los Angeles Angels and Los Angeles Dodgers. The Angels will try to continue that trend when they host Thursday's final contest between the teams. No major league club owns more success at home against an interleague opponent than the Angels do against the Dodgers. They are 31-16 when the Dodgers visit Anaheim.
Angels slugger Mark Trumbo is hitting .238 in May but surpassed his home run and RBI totals for April with a two-run blast and a sacrifice fly in Wednesday’s 4-3 victory. He has recorded six homers and 18 RBIs this month after totaling five and 16 in April. Angels shortstop Erick Aybar saw just nine pitches in four at-bats in the leadoff spot Wednesday but had three hits for his third multi-hit performance in the last four games. Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez is 11-for-19 in his last five games with three homers and eight RBIs.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Dodgers LH Ted Lilly (0-1, 4.05 ERA) vs. Angels LH Jason Vargas (4-3, 3.43)
Lilly had good results in his first game back after missing four weeks with a right rib cage strain. He went 5 1/3 innings Saturday in a 5-3 win against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals, allowing two runs (one earned) and two hits on 79 pitches. Lilly hasn’t faced the Angels since 2010, when he was the losing pitcher in a 12-0 loss as a member of the Chicago Cubs. Angels slugger Albert Pujols has 10 hits in 37 at-bats against the left-hander, including two home runs.
Vargas is 4-0 in May with a 2.25 ERA. The streak began with a three-hitter in a 4-0 victory May 3 against the Baltimore Orioles. He has given the Angels at least seven innings in each of his last three starts and held the opposition to under three runs each time. Vargas will get his first look at a National League team since giving up 10 earned runs in 4 1/3 innings of a 14-10 loss to Arizona last June while with Seattle. He has better memories of the Dodgers, pitching his first career complete game against the club in 2005 while a rookie on the Florida Marlins.
