San Diego @ Los Angeles preview
Dodger Stadium
Last Meeting ( Jun 3, 2013 ) San Diego 1, LA Dodgers 2
The Los Angeles Dodgers received a boost to their lineup when highly touted 22-year-old Cuban Yasiel Puig made a smashing major-league debut Monday, and they could get another if Hanley Ramirez returns Tuesday against the visiting San Diego Padres. Ramirez, who has played only four games this season, has been out since May 3 with a hamstring injury and missed the first 24 contests with a broken thumb. The Dodgers had lost four of five prior to Monday's 2-1 victory.
Puig preserved the win when he made a catch in deep right field and doubled off Chris Denorfia with a perfect throw to first base to end the game. Puig, who was called up from Double-A Chattanooga, singled in his first at-bat and finished 2-for-4. San Diego's Carlos Quentin did not play Monday in the first game in which he was eligible against Los Angeles since he broke Zack Greinke's collarbone during a benches-clearing brawl April 11 in San Diego because of a shoulder injury.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Padres LH Clayton Richard (1-5, 7.86 ERA) vs. Dodgers LH Ted Lilly (0-2, 4.26)
Richard won his first game of the season in his last outing, when he pitched two innings of relief in San Diego's 4-3 victory over Toronto in 17 innings on Friday. The 29-year-old Lafayette, Ind., native is 0-5 with an 8.35 ERA and 1.92 WHIP as a starter. Richard allowed two runs and eight hits over five innings in San Diego's 9-3 victory over Los Angeles on April 9 - his second-best outing of the season - and is 6-3 with a 3.19 ERA in 14 career starts against the Dodgers.
Lilly has overcome two stints on the disabled list - one following off-season shoulder surgery and the other after suffering a ribcage injury. The 37-year-old Torrance, Calif., native has made two starts since his latest return and allowed five runs (four earned) and seven hits in 11 innings while losing one of the outings. Lilly is 11-4 with a 2.51 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 18 games (17 starts) against San Diego, including a 6-2 mark since joining the Dodgers in 2010.
