PETCO Park

Last Meeting ( Jun 1, 2013 ) Toronto 3, San Diego 4

The San Diego Padres attempt to complete a three-game sweep of Toronto when they host the Blue Jays in a rare Sunday night affair. The Rock n’ Roll Marathon will be held Sunday in downtown San Diego with the finish line at Petco Park and that has prompted the later start. The Padres recorded 4-3 victories in each of the first two games of the series – including a 17-inning affair Friday.

The Blue Jays have lost three straight games and have scored three runs in each of their last four games after scoring 44 over their previous six outings. Toronto outfielder Jose Bautista is 0-for-12 in the series to drop his career average against the Padres to .160. San Diego has won four of its last five games to move within five games out of first place in the National League West and is a torrid 15-6 in its last 21 home games.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Blue Jays RH Ramon Ortiz (1-2, 5.01 ERA) vs. Padres RH Edinson Volquez (4-5, 5.20)

Ortiz was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo to start in place of Brandon Morrow, who was placed on the disabled list Saturday because of forearm issues. He started three times for the Blue Jays in May, going 1-1 with a 3.77 ERA. Ortiz is 2-3 with a 5.59 ERA in nine career appearances (five starts) against the Padres.

Volquez went three starts without winning before beating Seattle in his last start, allowing one run and four hits in a season-high 7 2/3 innings. He is 2-3 with a 5.46 ERA in five home starts this season. Volquez has an 8.68 ERA against Toronto, losing both his previous starts against the Blue Jays.

WALK-OFFS

1. San Diego reliever Luke Gregerson gave up a run and three hits in the ninth for a shaky save Saturday and will serve as the closer while Huston Street (calf) is on the disabled list.

2. Blue Jays OF Colby Rasmus (6-for-11, homer) and 1B Adam Lind (5-for-11, homer) have both performed well in the series.

3. Padres 1B Yonder Alonso sat out Saturday after being plunked on the right hand by a pitch Friday. It is unclear if he will be able to swing a bat Sunday.

PREDICTION: Blue Jays 6, Padres 5

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
