A stellar pitching matchup between Jake Peavy and Felix Hernandez is on tap when the Chicago White Sox visit the Seattle Mariners in the second contest of a three-game set. Peavy is 3-0 with a 0.86 ERA in three career starts at Safeco Field while Hernandez rediscovered his form with a terrific outing against the San Diego Padres in his last turn. Seattle won Monday’s opener as Chicago lost its season-worst seventh straight game.

The Mariners had lost eight consecutive home games against the White Sox before Monday’s 4-2 victory. The loss was Chicago’s sixth against Seattle in the last 32 meetings dating back to 2010. Mariners outfielder Raul Ibanez hit a two-run homer and has smacked eight in his last 18 games while first baseman Kendrys Morales hit a run-scoring double for his 13th RBI in 11 games.

PITCHING MATCHUP: White Sox RH Jake Peavy (6-3, 3.62 ERA) vs. Mariners RH Felix Hernandez (6-4, 2.38)

Peavy is 5-1 with a 2.25 ERA in nine career starts against Seattle. He has lost two of his last three outings and was touched up for six runs and eight hits in a season-low four innings against the Chicago Cubs in his last turn. Peavy has walked two or fewer batters in eight of his 10 starts.

Hernandez allowed 11 runs (10 earned) and 19 hits in 10 2/3 innings in back-to-back outings before bouncing back by holding the Padres to one run and three hits in eight innings. He has given up one run or fewer in eight of his 12 starts. Hernandez is 3-5 with a 3.69 ERA in 13 career starts against the White Sox.
