Milwaukee @ Miami preview

Marlins Park

Last Meeting ( Jun 10, 2013 ) Milwaukee 6, Miami 1

The Milwaukee Brewers are showing signs of breaking out of a near two-month slump, even without a healthy Ryan Braun. The Brewers will try to extend their winning streak to five when they visit the Miami Marlins for the second of a three-game series Tuesday. The Brewers matched a season high with 16 hits in a 6-1 victory over Miami on Monday without Braun, the 2011 National League MVP, who might sit out the series with a sore right thumb.

The Brewers have produced 24 runs in their last four contests, but still need to improve on a .189 average with two outs and runners in scoring position. The Marlins got slugger Giancarlo Stanton back from a hamstring injury Monday and Logan Morrison returned Sunday with two hits after off-season knee surgery. That should boost an offense that stands last in the majors in runs scored at 2.98 per game.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Brewers RH Wily Peralta (4-7, 6.16 ERA) vs. Marlins RH Jacob Turner (1-0, 0.69)

Peralta has lost five of his last six starts, allowing five runs on seven hits over five innings in a loss against Philadelphia on June 6. The 24-year-old has struck out 42 and walked 29 in 68 2/3 innings while opponents are batting .309 against him. Peralta faced the Marlins last September, yielding three runs over six innings to gain his first career victory.

Turner has been outstanding in his first two starts after returning from the disabled list, giving up one run on nine hits in 13 innings. The 22-year-old, acquired in a trade that sent Omar Infante and Anibal Sanchez to the Detroit Tigers last July, has struck out seven and walked five. Turner was 2-5 combined with Detroit and Miami in 2012 and has 15 career starts, none against Milwaukee.

WALK-OFFS

1. Milwaukee 2B Rickie Weeks is 16-for-46 his last 15 games, raising his batting average from .167 to .209.

2. Miami INF Placido Polanco left Monday’s game in the sixth inning with lower back stiffness and is day-to-day.

3. The Brewers are 16-7 when they score the first run of the game.

PREDICTION: Marlins 5, Brewers 2

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
