San Francisco @ Arizona preview

Chase Field

Last Meeting ( Jun 7, 2013 ) San Francisco 1, Arizona 3

As good as the San Francisco Giants have been at home this season, they’ve been just as bad on the road. The Giants head into Saturday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks with a 10-18 record away from AT&T Park after losing eight of their last 10 road contests. The Giants have scored eight runs over their last six games, and manager Bruce Bochy is trying to kick-start the offense by moving reigning MVP Buster Posey to the No. 3 spot in the order.

Arizona isn’t having much trouble scoring runs, thanks largely to the efforts of first baseman Paul Goldschmidt, who hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning of Friday’s 3-1 series-opening win. Goldschmidt has 15 homers and a National League-league 57 RBIs and he’s driven in 16 runs over his last seven games. The Diamondbacks have won five of their last seven to move 2 1/2 games ahead of second-place Colorado.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Giants LH Madison Bumgarner (4-4, 3.46 ERA) vs. Diamondbacks RH Trevor Cahill (3-6, 3.27)

After posting a 1.55 ERA over his first six starts, Bumgarner is 1-4 with a 5.54 ERA over his last six outings. The 23-year-old lefty has allowed nine runs in his last two starts covering 12 2/3 innings, but he owns an outstanding 0.63 ERA in two starts against the Diamondbacks this season. Goldschmidt is 3-for-12 with one home run against Bumgarner, who is 3-3 with a 3.08 ERA in 11 career appearances (10 starts) against Arizona.

Like Bumgarner, Cahill has struggled of late with a 5.68 ERA over his last three starts. He allowed one run over eight innings against the Giants on April 30 at Chase Field, where he’s allowed one run or fewer in four of his past five starts. Brandon Crawford is hitless in 11 at-bats against the 25-year-old Cahill, who gave up five runs in five innings last Monday against the Cardinals.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Giants placed OF Angel Pagan on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 28, with a strained right hamstring. OF Juan Perez was recalled from Triple-A Fresno.

2. Goldschmidt’s 27 RBIs against the Giants are the most against any opponent.

3. San Francisco is 23-7 when scoring at least four runs.

PREDICTION: Diamondbacks 6, Giants 3

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
