AT&T Park

Last Meeting ( Jul 3, 2016 ) San Francisco 5, Arizona 4

The Arizona Diamondbacks have had their way in San Francisco over the last two seasons and will try to continue that trend when they visit the first-place Giants for the first of three straight on Friday. The Diamondbacks swept four in a row at AT&T Park in April and have claimed 10 of the last 11 meetings in the City by the Bay.

However, the Giants took two of three in Phoenix last weekend and followed it up with two of three over Colorado to carry a relatively comfortable six-game advantage in the National League West into Thursday's action. San Francisco rode the right arm of Johnny Cueto, who improved to 13-1 with a five-hit outing in a 5-1 win over the Rockies on Wednesday. Buster Posey homered for the second time in three games and Brandon Belt had a triple and a double to push his average back to .300. Arizona's dominance in San Francisco is in line with the club's season-long splits, as it fell to 15-32 at home - as opposed to 23-17 on the road - with Wednesday's 13-6 loss to San Diego.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Diamondbacks LH Patrick Corbin (4-6, 4.90 ERA) vs. Giants RH Jeff Samardzija (8-5, 3.97)

Corbin did not factor in the decision after giving up five runs (two earned) in 5 1/3 innings in a win over the Giants on Saturday. He gave up two home runs for the second time in a row and has surrendered 17 on the season, which is two shy of matching his career high and left the 26-year-old ranked tied for fourth in the NL entering Thursday. Posey is batting .313 against Corbin, who is 4-4 with a 3.47 ERA in 13 career starts against San Francisco.

Samardzija outlasted Corbin by two innings in their encounter last weekend but also did not pick up a decision, allowing four runs and eight hits. He did not issue a walk for the fifth time in his last 10 starts, two of which have come against the Diamondbacks. Arizona center fielder Michael Bourn is 9-for-20 with four doubles against the 31-year-old while slugger Paul Goldschmidt is 2-for-18 with eight strikeouts.

WALK-OFFS

1. Diamondbacks SS Jean Segura (triceps contusion) is considered day-to-day.

2. The Giants have won 18 of their last 22 games against division opponents.

3. Arizona 3B Jake Lamb, one of five finalists in the NL for the All-Star Game Final Vote, homered Wednesday and has gone deep five times in his last eight games.

PREDICTION: Giants 5, Diamondbacks 3

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
