Last Meeting ( Jun 10, 2013 ) Arizona 5, LA Dodgers 4

After losing 16 of their last 20 games against the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Los Angeles Dodgers are hoping starting pitcher Zack Greinke can help stem the slide on Tuesday. The Diamondbacks scored four runs in the ninth to win Monday’s series opener, spoiling another impressive game by rookie sensation Yasiel Puig. The 22-year-old Cuban went 3-for-4 and has 16 hits in his first 32 at-bats since being called up from the minors last week.

While beleaguered Dodgers closer Brandon League blew his fourth save in the loss, Arizona’s Heath Bell escaped a jam in the ninth and recorded his 12th save. Bell has converted eight straight save opportunities and has not allowed a run in 13 of his last 15 appearances. He’ll likely return to a setup role once J.J. Putz (strained right elbow) returns from the disabled list in the next few weeks.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Diamondbacks RH Ian Kennedy (3-4, 5.72 ERA) vs. Dodgers RH Zack Greinke (3-1, 3.89)

Kennedy is looking to bounce back from a dismal outing against the Cardinals last Thursday, when he gave up career highs of 10 runs and 13 hits over four innings. Adrian Gonzalez is 4-for-18 with six strikeouts against Kennedy, who is 5-3 with 3.88 ERA in nine career starts against the Dodgers. He allowed six runs in 5 2/3 innings against Los Angeles on April 13.

Greinke threw seven scoreless innings against the Braves last Thursday while striking out seven and throwing a season-high 117 pitches. He struggled in his last start against Arizona on May 26, 2012, allowing seven runs in 2 1/3 innings while pitching for Milwaukee. The loss dropped Greinke to 0-3 with a 7.90 ERA in five career starts against the Diamondbacks.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Diamondbacks are 15-8 in 1-run games, and their 15 wins lead the majors.

2. Dodgers SS Hanley Ramirez, who has been out of the starting lineup for the past five games with a strained left hamstring, is not expected to start again until Friday.

3. Arizona is the lone team in the majors not to be shut out this season.

PREDICTION: Dodgers 5, Diamondbacks 2

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
