AT&T Park

Last Meeting ( Jul 8, 2016 ) Arizona 2, San Francisco 6

The Arizona Diamondbacks will have a new closer Saturday, when they continue their three-game series against the host San Francisco Giants. The Diamondbacks, who have fallen into last place in the National League West following an active offseason, traded closer Brad Ziegler to Boston shortly after Friday’s 6-2 loss in exchange for two minor-league prospects.

Ziegler could be the first of several players on the move for Arizona, which has lost 10 of its last 12 games and owns a dismal 15-32 record at home. The Diamondbacks could hand the closer's job to veteran Tyler Clippard, who has held opponents scoreless in nine of his last 10 games and has recorded 54 career saves. Arizona will be represented by first baseman Paul Goldschmidt at Tuesday’s All-Star Game in San Diego, while San Francisco is sending pitchers Madison Bumgarner and Johnny Cueto along with catcher Buster Posey and first baseman Brandon Belt, who was selected by the fans on Friday. Belt topped four other candidates - including Arizona third baseman Jake Lamb, who is batting .291 with 20 homers but committed a costly throwing error in Friday’s contest.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Diamondbacks LH Robbie Ray (4-7, 4.78 ERA) vs. Giants RH Jake Peavy (5-7, 5.14)

Ray is facing San Francisco for the second time in less than a week as he yielded four runs while striking out eight over six innings at home on Sunday. The 24-year-old, who has recorded at least five strikeouts in 16 consecutive outings, won his only start at AT&T Park on April 19 as he tossed six scoreless innings. Brandon Crawford is 1-for-7 with five strikeouts against Ray, who is 1-0 with a 3.18 ERA in three career turns against the Giants.

Peavy has solidified his once-shaky spot in the Giants' rotation with a 4-2 record and 2.27 ERA over his last eight starts. The three-time All-Star was 1-5 with an 8.21 ERA in his first nine outings but continued his turnaround on Monday by holding Colorado to one run and five hits over 6 2/3 innings. Peavy is 17-13 with a 4.47 ERA in 36 career starts against Arizona, including a 4.09 ERA in two turns earlier this season.

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
