Last Meeting ( Jun 10, 2013 ) Toronto 6, Chi. White Sox 10

Things have become so dire for the injury-ridden Toronto Blue Jays, they've turned to a former division rival who hasn't been an effective starter in five years. Chien-Ming Wang makes his first major-league appearance of the season Tuesday as the visiting Blue Jays resume their three-game series with the Chicago White Sox. Chicago prevailed 10-6 in a fog-filled opener behind a two-homer, five-RBI performance from Adam Dunn.

Wang, who was let go by the New York Yankees late last week, is the latest in a series of reclamation projects the Blue Jays have taken on as their pitching staff continues to be ravaged by injuries. The 33-year-old Taiwan native takes over for Ramon Ortiz, who suffered a right elbow injury last week and is out indefinitely. Wang will be opposed by left-hander Jose Quintana, who has looked ordinary over the past two months after opening the season with a flourish.

PITCHING MATCHUP
: Blue Jays RH Chien-Ming Wang (2012: 2-3, 6.68 ERA) vs. White Sox LH Jose Quintana (3-2, 3.95)

Wang won 19 games in back-to-back seasons with the Yankees in 2006-07 but has fallen on hard times since. He made 10 appearances with the Washington Nationals a season ago, allowing opposing batters to hit .376 off him. Wang has thrived against the White Sox in his career, going 2-0 with a 1.35 ERA in 20 career innings. Alex Rios has the most of experience of any Chicago hitter against Wang, going 5-for-22 with three RBIs.

Quintana has had success against Toronto already this season - tossing 6 2/3 scoreless innings in a victory April 17 - but has fallen on hard times since. The 24-year-old Colombia native has just two victories over his last nine starts, watching his ERA swell nearly 1 1/2 points over that span. He's coming off a pair of no-decisions against Oakland in which he surrendered seven runs on 17 hits over 13 innings. He's 2-1 with a 1.86 ERA all-time against Toronto.

WALK-OFFS

1. Chicago leads the season series 3-2.

2. Blue Jays RF Jose Bautista also went deep twice in Monday's opener and has 11 home runs in 40 career games against the White Sox.

3. Dunn ranks third in the majors with 79 strikeouts, followed closely by Toronto teammates Colby Rasmus (75) and J.P. Arencibia (72).

PREDICTION: White Sox 7, Blue Jays 4

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
