Last Meeting ( Jun 18, 2013 ) Miami 2, Arizona 3

With their losing streak behind them, the Arizona Diamondbacks go for the series win Wednesday afternoon as they host the Miami Marlins in the finale of a three-game set. Martin Prado belted a game-tying two-run homer in the fourth inning on Tuesday and Paul Goldschmidt led off the ninth with his 17th blast, ending Arizona's four-game skid.

The Diamondbacks gave the Marlins a taste of their own medicine, as Miami erased a 2-0 deficit in Monday's series opener before Giancarlo Stanton launched a solo homer - his second blast of the game - in the ninth inning for the victory. Stanton went 0-for-4 on Tuesday, ending his seven-game hitting streak. The Marlins had won three of four prior to Tuesday's defeat.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Marlins RH Jose Fernandez (4-3, 3.11 ERA) vs. Diamondbacks RH Trevor Cahill (3-8, 3.96)

Fernandez is coming off a victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday in which he allowed three runs (two earned) while striking out a season-high 10 batters over seven innings. The 20-year-old Cuban rookie has won four of his last five decisions and yielded fewer than three earned runs in seven of his last nine starts. Fernandez, who is 2-3 with a 4.46 ERA in seven road outings, will be facing Arizona for the first time.

Cahill looks to snap a four-game losing streak and win for just the second time in eight starts. The 25-year-old suffered the loss at San Diego on Friday despite limiting the Padres to two runs and five hits in 5 2/3 innings while striking out 10. Cahill won his only career start against the Marlins, allowing one run over eight frames on May 17 in Miami.

WALK-OFFS

1. Goldschmidt has gone 3-for-7 with two homers and three RBIs in the first two games of the series after going 3-for-33 over his previous eight contests.

2. Marlins LF Juan Pierre singled in the third inning Tuesday to extend his hitting streak to 14 games - two shy of his career high. The single was Pierre's 2,200th career hit.

3. Diamondbacks RHP Brandon McCarthy, who is on the disabled list with right shoulder inflammation, threw on flat ground from 105 feet on Tuesday.

PREDICTION: Marlins 3, Diamondbacks 1

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
