Detroit @ Toronto preview
Rogers Centre
Last Meeting ( Jul 1, 2013 ) Detroit 3, Toronto 8
The Toronto Blue Jays seem to have little trouble igniting their offense at home. After cruising to an 8-3 triumph on Canada Day, the Blue Jays will vie for their eighth straight home victory and 12th in 14 tries when they host the Detroit Tigers in the second contest of their four-game series on Tuesday. Mark DeRosa belted a three-run homer and Jose Reyes had three hits while going deep for the second straight outing as Toronto breezed to victory on Monday.
Miguel Cabrera apparently forgot to bring his bat over the border, going 0-for-4 to see his 15-game hitting streak go by the boards in the series opener. Reeling Detroit has dropped six of its last seven and fell a half-game behind Cleveland atop the American League Central. The Tigers will begin a four-game series against the host Indians on Friday.
TV: 7:07 p.m. ET, FSN (Detroit), RSN (Toronto)
PITCHING MATCHUP: Tigers RH Doug Fister (6-5, 3.50 ERA) vs. Blue Jays RH Chien-Ming Wang (1-1, 5.24)
Fister deserved a better fate in his last trip to the mound, settling for a no-decision after yielding one run on seven hits in as many innings versus the Los Angeles Angels. The 29-year-old owns a 1-4 mark with three no-decisions in his last eight outings. Fister evened his career mark against Toronto at 2-2 after allowing one run on eight hits in a victory on April 11.
Wang suffered his first loss in brutal fashion, allowing seven runs on six hits in just 1 2/3 innings against Boston on Thursday. The 33-year-old Taiwan native has owned Detroit in his career, posting a 5-0 mark with a 2.54 ERA while limiting the Tigers to a .243 batting average. Wang will be making just his fifth start of the season - and second at home.
