Last Meeting ( Jun 29, 2013 ) San Diego 1, Miami 7

The Miami Marlins' win total this month will surpass their combined effort for April and May should they defeat the visiting San Diego Padres on Sunday. Miami improved to 14-10 in June by breezing to a 7-1 triumph over San Diego on Saturday in the second contest of the four-game series. The offensive outburst was a welcome change for the Marlins, who were outscored 20-3 en route to losing their first four meetings with the Padres.

San Diego is struggling as it deals with the absences of Everth Cabrera (hamstring), promising rookie Jedd Gyorko (groin) and Yonder Alonso (hand). The Padres fell to 5-7 without the trio atop the lineup as well as 1-1 on their current 10-game road trip. Logan Forsythe has done his best to make up for Gyorko, going 4-for-8 in the series.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Padres RH Andrew Cashner (5-3, 3.34 ERA) vs. Marlins RH Nathan Eovaldi (1-0, 3.00)

Cashner deserved a better fate after settling for a no-decision versus the Los Angeles Dodgers in his last trip to the mound. The 26-year-old yielded one run while matching a career high by tossing eight innings before accepting his third no-decision in four outings. Cashner won his lone career start versus Miami after tossing 7 1/3 scoreless innings.

Eovaldi has been pretty consistent since returning from the 60-day disabled list. The 23-year-old yielded two runs - including one home run - in six innings in both of his starts in 2013. Eovaldi, who picked up the win after striking out seven in a 7-2 triumph versus San Francisco on June 23, also won his lone career start against San Diego after permitting one run in 5 1/3 innings.

WALK-OFFS

1. Cashner has not allowed a homer in his last four starts after surrendering six in his previous four outings.

2. Padres OF Will Venable has four hits in the series after going without one in each of his previous seven contests.

3. After posting an 8-19 mark in April, Miami limped to a 6-22 record in May.

PREDICTION: Marlins 6, Padres 3

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
