Cincinnati @ Milwaukee preview
Miller Park
Last Meeting ( Jul 8, 2013 ) Cincinnati 3, Milwaukee 4
The Milwaukee Brewers are mired in last place but have a pair of players in Carlos Gomez and Jean Segura that are giving their fans some hope for the future. Those two will try to lead the Brewers once more when they host the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday. Gomez and Segura were named to the National League All-Star team Saturday and each proved they deserved the bid Monday.
Segura had three hits and his 27th stolen base while Gomez went hitless but saved the 4-3 victory by leaping above the center-field wall to rob Joey Votto of a two-run homer with two outs in the ninth inning. The Reds have dropped three of their last four and have fallen four games behind first-place St. Louis in the National League Central. Cincinnati has been held to three or fewer runs in five of its last six games.
TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, Fox Sports Ohio (Cincinnati), Fox Sports Wisconsin (Milwaukee)
PITCHING MATCHUP: Reds LH Tony Cingrani (3-0, 3.40 ERA) vs. Brewers RH Wily Peralta (5-9, 5.27)
Cingrani has filled in wherever Cincinnati has needed help this season and is back in the rotation because of Johnny Cueto’s lat injury. Cingrani allowed two runs on four hits in 5 2/3 innings against San Francisco on Wednesday but has had some command issues in his last two appearances with a total of 10 walks in 9 2/3 innings. The 24-year-old rookie started against Milwaukee on May 10 and surrendered two runs on five hits in four innings.
Peralta had his scheduled start Sunday pushed back because of a left hamstring strain but was declared ready to return after a bullpen session. The 24-year-old Dominican native was turning in one of his better efforts when he suffered the injury July 2, scattering three hits over 5 1/3 scoreless frames at Washington. Peralta was knocked around at Cincinnati on June 16 and is 0-2 with a 3.78 ERA in three career starts against the division rivals.
