Baltimore @ New York preview

Yankee Stadium

Last Meeting ( Jul 5, 2013 ) Baltimore 2, NY Yankees 3

Andy Pettitte has dominated the Baltimore Orioles over his storied career, posting more victories against them than any other opponent. Pettitte will take his 27-6 record against the Orioles into the second of a three-game series Saturday afternoon at Yankee Stadium. The 41-year-old left-hander has face Baltimore only once over the past two years - in the postseason last October - but Pettitte's more pressing concern will be to put an end to his four-start winless drought.

The Yankees are vying for a season-high six-game winning streak but face a tough matchup against Orioles right-hander Chris Tillman, who has won six straight starts and is 7-0 in his last eight outings. Baltimore had won five straight against New York before closer Jim Johnson surrendered a pair of runs in the ninth inning of Friday's 3-2 loss. Johnson led the majors with 51 saves last year, but he blew his sixth chance Friday - doubling his total in 2012.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Orioles RH Chris Tillman (10-2, 3.68 ERA) vs. Yankees LH Andy Pettitte (5-6, 4.40)

Tillman reversed an ugly history against the Yankees in his last start, limiting them to two runs and five hits over six innings to cap a perfect 6-0 month of June. Prior to that start, Tillman was 2-3 with a bloated 8.16 ERA in seven starts against New York. Tillman has allowed more than three runs just once in his last eight outings and has already surpassed last year's career-best win total of nine.

Pettitte broke Whitey Ford's franchise record for career strikeouts last time out at Minnesota, but he lasted only five-plus innings and did not factor in the decision. Pettitte has surrendered at least four runs in as many consecutive starts and five of six since spending a 2 1/2-week stint on the disabled list with an upper-back injury. He has posted an 0-3 record with a 5.84 ERA since winning at Seattle on June 8.

WALK-OFFS

1. Yankees SS Derek Jeter, who has yet to play following offseason ankle surgery, will begin a rehab assignment Saturday at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

2. Orioles RF Nick Markakis is 12-for-37 with a pair of homers vs. Pettitte.

3. Yankees 2B Robinson Cano is 10-for-19 with two homers and seven RBIs against Tillman.

PREDICTION: Yankees 4, Orioles 3

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
