The Milwaukee Brewers have been receiving solid pitching and look to increase a franchise record of 35 straight scoreless innings when they open a four-game series against the visiting San Diego Padres on Monday. Milwaukee’s previous best run was a 31-inning stretch in 1990 and that mark was surpassed when the Brewers recorded a 1-0, 13-inning victory over the Miami Marlins on Sunday. Struggling San Diego has lost 11 of its last 12 road games.

The Padres were two games above .500 before the recent stretch in which they have lost 20 of 25 games to fall 13 games below the break-even mark. San Diego lost 3-2 to St. Louis on Sunday and the game ended when Jedd Gyorko’s bid for a go-ahead three-run homer was caught at the fence by a leaping Allen Craig to preserve the Cardinals’ victory. Milwaukee beat the Marlins when rookie Caleb Gindl hit his first career homer.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Padres RH Andrew Cashner (5-5, 3.81 ERA) vs. Brewers LH Tom Gorzelanny (1-3, 1.88)

Cashner lost his last two starts and hasn’t won since defeating the Atlanta Braves on June 11. He hasn’t allowed a homer in any of his past seven outings. Cashner is 1-0 with a 1.00 ERA in seven career appearances (one start) against Milwaukee.

Gorzelanny hasn’t allowed an earned run in either of his last two starts but lost both games 2-1 due to defensive miscues. He gave up three hits against the Arizona Diamondbacks in six innings in his last turn. Gorzelanny is 1-3 with a 3.72 ERA in nine career appearances (five starts) against San Diego.

1. Brewers CF Carlos Gomez (elbow) missed Sunday’s game against the Marlins and could return for the opener.

2. Padres 1B Yonder Alonso went 6-for-14 in the three games against St. Louis but is just a .222 hitter in 63 career at-bats against Milwaukee.

3. Milwaukee LF Ryan Braun has 10 homers in 41 career games against the Padres.
