Last Meeting ( Jul 25, 2014 ) Arizona 5, Philadelphia 9

The Philadelphia Phillies seem ready to part with their aging stars, but moving Cliff Lee might require an impressive effort from the veteran Saturday against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks. The Phillies claimed the opener of the three-game series with a 9-5 win as Domonic Brown and Grady Sizemore ignited the offense. Arizona's Josh Collmenter will try to duplicate his performance from the last time he faced the Phillies - he shut them out for six innings on April 25 to earn his first win of 2014.

The last-place Phillies reportedly are shopping several veterans - including former MVP Ryan Howard, who has sat in favor of Darin Ruf the last three games. Lee is due $25 million next season and has a vesting option for $27.5 million in 2016, so the market for him might be limited - especially if the 35-year-old doesn't look sharp in his final start before the non-waiver trade deadline. The Diamondbacks have not won a series against the Phillies since April 25-27, 2011, losing five sets and splitting one over that span.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, FSN (Arizona), NBC 10 (Philadelphia)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Diamondbacks RH Josh Collmenter (8-5, 3.64 ERA) vs. Phillies LH Cliff Lee (4-5, 3.67)

Collmenter has put together two straight strong starts spanning the All-Star break, allowing one run over seven innings in each. He gave up only four hits while beating the Chicago Cubs on Sunday, earning his first win since June 28. The 28-year-old is 1-2 with a 3.70 ERA in seven career games (three starts) versus Philadelphia.

Lee's return from the disabled list was ugly, as he allowed six runs and 12 hits over 5 2/3 innings in Monday's loss to San Francisco. It was his first major-league start since May 18 and marked the third time in 11 outings this season he has allowed six or more earned runs. Lee is 4-1 with a 3.12 ERA in seven career starts against the Diamondbacks, including a no-decision on April 26 in Arizona.

WALK-OFFS

1. Diamondbacks 2B Aaron Hill, who is riding a nine-game hitting streak, is 9-for-26 lifetime versus Lee.

2. Phillies OF Marlon Byrd, another potential trade chip, is batting .375 during his seven-game hitting streak.

3. Philadelphia SS Jimmy Rollins' $11 million vesting option for next season kicked in Friday, when he reached 1,100 plate appearances over the last two seasons.

PREDICTION: Phillies 4, Diamondbacks 3

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
