Last Meeting ( Jul 22, 2013 ) Atlanta 2, NY Mets 1

The Atlanta Braves are slowly getting their injured bodies back in the lineup. The Braves, who play the second game of a four-game set at New York on Tuesday, saw Jason Heyward return to the lineup Monday after missing six games with a strained hamstring. Freddie Freeman and Evan Gattis also have rejoined the lineup in recent days after injuries.

New York lost Monday’s series opener 2-1, just the Mets’ fourth loss in their past 11 games. David Wright has 50 hits since June 12, and his next homer will tie Mike Piazza (220) for second on the club’s all-time list. The Mets turn to Carlos Torres, who pitched well out of the bullpen, against Atlanta’s Kris Medlen.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Braves RH Kris Medlen (6-9, 3.64 ERA) vs. Mets RH Carlos Torres (0-1, 0.79).

Medlen’s up-and-down season has turned south again with losses in his past two starts as he has surrendered 10 earned runs on 17 hits in 9 1/3 innings. The right-hander beat the Mets on June 19 to start a three-start winning streak, allowing one earned run with seven strikeouts in seven innings. He got a no decision May 24 in New York, striking out nine in six innings.

The Mets moved Torres into the rotation July 13 at Pittsburgh, and the right-hander responded with five innings of one-run, five-hit ball with five strikeouts. The 30-year-old made five starts as a rookie in 2009 with the White Sox, but had started just once in his previous 46 games. Torres started 12 games at Triple-A Las Vegas earlier this season, going 6-3 with a 3.89 ERA.

WALK-OFFS

1. Torres beat the Braves as a member of the Colorado Rockies on Sept. 4, 2012, pitching three scoreless innings of relief.

2. New York activated INF Justin Turner (left intercostal strain) from the disabled list, and plans to use him at second base, third base and shortstop.

3. Atlanta plans to place LHP Paul Maholm on the disabled list with a left wrist injury, and indications are the Braves will promote LHP Alex Wood to start Thursday’s series finale.

PREDICTION: Braves 5, Mets 3

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
