Chris Young has revived his career as he seeks to reach double digits in victories for the first time since 2006 when the Seattle Mariners conclude their three-game series against the host Cleveland Indians on Thursday. Young last recorded 10 or more wins when he went 11-5 for the San Diego Padres in 2006 and had totaled just 11 victories over a five-season span before re-emerging this year. The teams split the first two games of the series.

Corey Kluber tossed a three-hitter as Cleveland posted a 2-0 victory on Wednesday despite seeing Seattle ace Felix Hernandez allow two earned runs or fewer while pitching at least seven innings for the 14th consecutive time to break the record set by Hall-of-Famer Tom Seaver in 1971. Yan Gomes delivered a two-run double and has driven in six runs during his six-game hitting streak. The Mariners are three games behind Toronto for the American League’s second wild-card spot, while the Indians trail the Blue Jays by five.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mariners RH Chris Young (9-6, 3.04 ERA) vs. Indians RH Zach McAllister (3-6, 5.65)

Young halted a three-start winless stretch by blanking Baltimore on two hits over seven innings on Saturday. He matched a season best with eight strikeouts to raise his season total to 78 and is on track to record 100 or more for the first time since 2007 with the Padres. Young is 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA in two career starts against Cleveland, including a victory on June 27 in which he gave up one run and four hits over five frames.

McAllister has lost six consecutive major-league decisions during a season in which he has split time between Cleveland and Triple-A Columbus. He allowed six runs (five earned) and eight hits in four innings while falling to Kansas City in his last turn. McAllister is 0-2 with a 5.60 ERA in five career starts against Seattle.
