Guaranteed Rate Field

Last Meeting ( Jul 22, 2013 ) Detroit 7, Chi. White Sox 3

The Detroit Tigers could be without reigning American League MVP Miguel Cabrera when they visit the Chicago White Sox for the second contest of a four-game series on Tuesday. Cabrera has a sore left hip flexor muscle, suffered in Monday’s 7-2 victory, and is listed day-to-day. The Tigers will look to the red-hot Victor Martinez and Torii Hunter, who have combined for 29 RBIs while both hitting over .350 in July, to pick up the slack along with slugger Prince Fielder.

The White Sox had three errors in the series opener and have 64 on the season, six shy of their league-low of 70 in all of 2012. Chicago did get slugger Paul Konerko back from the disabled list Monday to provide more punch in the middle of the order behind Alex Rios and Adam Dunn. Rios is 7-for-16 with eight RBIs in four games after the All-Star break.

The 24-year-old is 6-5 lifetime in 12 starts with a 4.92 ERA against the White Sox and Rios has belted three homers against him. Porcello has struck out 80 and walked 19 in 99 1/3 innings while giving up 106 hits.

Santiago gets his 13th start this season and first of his career versus the Tigers, who have managed only two runs in 11 innings of relief work against him. The left-hander yielded two runs or fewer in his previous three starts without a decision. Andy Dirks is 2-for-3 with a walk and a solo blast in his career against Santiago, who has surrendered 10 homers in 87 1/3 innings.

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
