Last Meeting ( Jul 27, 2013 ) Philadelphia 0, Detroit 10

The Detroit Tigers aim for a series sweep for the first time since early June when they host the reeling Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday afternoon. After a 10-0 pasting of the Phillies on Saturday, Detroit has won six of its last seven games. The Tigers' last series sweep was in a three-game set against Cleveland on June 7-9.

First-place Detroit welcomed back slugger Miguel Cabrera on Saturday after a four-game absence due to a hip injury. The Tigers pounded out 15 hits in sending Philadelphia to its season-high seventh straight loss. That represents the Phillies' longest skid since they dropped eight in a row near the end of the 2011 season after already locking up the National League East title.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Phillies RH Jonathan Pettibone (5-4, 3.97 ERA) vs. Tigers RH Rick Porcello (7-6, 4.49)

Pettibone has thrown between five and six innings in each of his last six starts while posting a respectable 3.18 ERA and allowing just one home run in 34 innings. The 23-year-old rookie owns a 5.62 ERA in eight road starts and gave up three runs on seven hits in five innings at St. Louis on Tuesday. Pettibone is 1-1 with a 4.58 mark in three starts against American League teams.

Porcello continued his turnaround with seven scoreless innings at the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday to win his third straight start. He has allowed just three runs in 20 innings during the winning streak, which began after he opened the year 4-6 with a 5.21 ERA. Porcello has never faced the Phillies.

WALK-OFFS

1. Cabrera, who homered in his first at-bat Saturday, is one RBI shy of reaching 100 for the 10th straight season.

2. Philadelphia is hitting .191 during its seven-game slide.

3. Phillies manager Charlie Manuel has been stuck on 996 career wins. With four more victories, he would become the 59th manager to reach 1,000.

PREDICTION: Tigers 5, Phillies 3

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
