Citizens Bank Park

Last Meeting ( Jul 30, 2013 ) San Francisco 3, Philadelphia 7

The San Francisco Giants and Philadelphia Phillies may have some last-minute lineup changes before the teams meet Wednesday at Citizens Bank Park. With both teams falling out of playoff contention in recent weeks, players such as the Giants’ Hunter Pence and Javier Lopez and the Phillies’ Michael Young and Cliff Lee all could be dealt before Wednesday’s non-waiver deadline. Young homered on Tuesday to help the Phillies win the series opener 7-3 and snap an eight-game losing streak.

Phillies prospect Cody Asche is expected to make his first career start on Wednesday, and the 23-year-old could see regular playing time at third base if Young is traded. The Phillies are facing a Giants team that has lost five straight and fallen a season-high 13 games under .500. The Giants are hoping Brett Pill, who was recalled from Triple-A Fresno on Tuesday, can provide a boost to their struggling offense while sharing time at first base with Brandon Belt.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Giants RH Chad Gaudin (4-2, 2.77 ERA) vs. Phillies RH Kyle Kendrick (9-7, 3.96)

Gaudin looks to bounce back from his worst outing of the season, an outing in which he allowed six runs in 3 2/3 innings last Wednesday against the Reds. “Chad’s been so good for us, but it was a rough outing for him and a couple plays we couldn’t make didn’t help,” said manager Bruce Bochy. The 30-year-old Gaudin has a 2.03 ERA in nine career relief appearances against the Phillies.

After surrendering six runs in each of his previous two starts, Kendrick allowed three in six innings last Thursday against the St. Louis Cardinals. Jeff Francoeur is 10-for-25 with a home run against the 28-year-old right-hander, who is 2-1 with a 2.81 ERA in six career games (three starts) against the Giants. Kendrick yielded two runs over seven frames in a 6-2 win over the Giants on May 7.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Giants have been outhomered 10-1 over their last 11 games.

2. Phillies OF Domonic Brown will undergo more concussion tests Wednesday and could be out another week.

3. San Francisco has lost 12 of its last 15 road games.

PREDICTION: Phillies 5, Giants 3

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
