Last Meeting ( Aug 2, 2013 ) Cleveland 0, Miami 10

The Miami Marlins are building a strong young pitching staff and they expect to be challenged this weekend against one of the league’s best offenses. After Jose Fernandez passed the first test Friday with eight brilliant innings, Jacob Turner goes to the mound Saturday against the visiting Cleveland Indians. The Marlins, who are in the top third in the majors in ERA (3.67) despite being 22 games under .500, have seen their starters allow three or fewer runs in 36 of their last 41 games.

The Indians had posted 50 runs during their eight-game winning streak before managing only three hits in a 10-0 defeat on Friday. Cleveland, which is only 23-30 on the road, is three games behind the first-place Detroit Tigers in the American League Central. The Indians, who are fifth in the majors in runs scored with 519, have been shut out only three times since April 28.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Indians RH Zach McAllister (4-6, 3.48 ERA) vs. Marlins RH Jacob Turner (3-3, 2.65)

McAllister allowed two runs over seven innings in a no-decision against the Chicago White Sox on Monday in his second outing since coming off the disabled list. The right-hander has given up 81 hits in 77 2/3 innings while surrendering more than three earned runs on one occasion in 13 starts. McAllister has yet to face Miami, but Juan Pierre is 1-for-3 against him.

Turner has solid numbers overall, but has notched only one victory in his last five starts. The 22-year-old gave up three runs over 6 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the New York Mets on Monday. He has allowed two runs or fewer in eight of his 11 outings. The former Detroit Tiger hurler, who has yielded 60 hits in 71 1/3 innings in 2013, has yet to face Cleveland.

WALK-OFFS

1. Marlins SS Adeiny Hechavarria recorded three hits Friday after going 2-for-29 in his previous eight contests.

2. Indians 2B Jason Kipnis has cooled off the last 10 games with seven hits in 40 at-bats to drop his average to .289.

3. Pierre has 20 stolen bases after a scoring change last Monday, making him the 16th player in major league history with 13 straight seasons of reaching that plateau.

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
