Arizona @ San Francisco preview
AT&T Park
Last Meeting ( Aug 30, 2016 ) Arizona 4, San Francisco 3
The San Francisco Giants look to avoid being the victim of a sweep when they host the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday afternoon for the finale of their brief two-game set. San Francisco dropped a 4-3 decision in the opener, falling short in its comeback attempt and remaining two games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers for first place in the National League West.
Angel Pagan and Hunter Pence -- the latter returned from a three-game absence due to tightness in his right hamstring -- each recorded three of the Giants' eight hits. San Francisco, which is 2-2 on its five-game homestand, kicks off a 10-game road trip Thursday in Chicago against the NL Central-leading Cubs. Arizona held on for its third win in four games Tuesday after using a four-run rally in the fifth inning to erase a 1-0 deficit. Welington Castillo highlighted the uprising with a two-run single and finished with two hits for the fifth time in his last seven contests.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Diamondbacks RH Shelby Miller (2-9, 7.14 ERA) vs. Giants LH Matt Moore (8-10, 3.95)
Miller will be recalled from Triple-A Reno to make his 15th start of the season and first since July 6, when he was tagged by San Diego for six runs in five innings. The 25-year-old native of Houston, who was an All-Star with Atlanta last year, has lost six of his last seven major-league outings but went 5-1 with one shutout and a 3.91 ERA in eight turns with Reno since being demoted on July 14. Miller fell to 2-3 in seven career starts against San Francisco on July 1, when he surrendered five runs and eight hits over six innings.
Moore came within one out of a no-hitter in Los Angeles on Thursday, limiting the Dodgers to one hit and three walks while striking out seven over 8 2/3 scoreless innings. The 27-year-old Floridian is 1-3 with a 3.41 ERA in five turns since being acquired from Tampa Bay and 0-2 with a 6.55 mark in two outings at AT&T Park. Moore lost his only career start against the Diamondbacks on June 7, yielding five runs and seven hits in seven frames at Arizona while with the Rays.
