Toronto @ Los Angeles preview

Angel Stadium of Anaheim

Last Meeting ( Aug 3, 2013 ) Toronto 3, LA Angels 7

As the Toronto Blue Jays continue to toil during arguably the most disappointing season in club history, at least one of their big-ticket offseason acquisitions has rounded into top form. Left-hander Mark Buehrle will take a 20-inning scoreless streak to the mound when visiting Toronto tries to avoid a four-game sweep against the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday. The 34-year-old has recorded five of his seven victories over his last nine starts and hopes to give the bullpen a much-needed rest.

The Blue Jays have received only 11 innings from their starters during the first three games of the series, including five frames from Esmil Rogers in Saturday's 7-3 loss. Los Angeles rookie Kole Calhoun homered for the second straight game after his first career blast gave the Angels a 7-5 victory Friday. C.J. Wilson, who had a 1.25 ERA in five starts before getting roughed up in his last outing, takes the mound for the Angels.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Blue Jays LH Mark Buehrle (7-7, 4.27 ERA) vs. Angels LH C.J. Wilson (11-6, 3.48)

Buehrle allowed five hits in seven innings of Toronto's 5-0 victory at Oakland on Tuesday after throwing a two-hitter and striking out a season-high nine in a 4-0 win over Houston on July 25. He was 0-2 with an 8.47 ERA in his previous three starts on the road and is 2-5 with a 5.76 ERA in 11 starts on the road. Buehrle is 2-7 with a 4.43 ERA in 20 games (19 starts) against the Angels, with Howie Kendrick (6-for-17, homer) having the most success and experience against him.

Wilson matched a career high by allowing six runs and yielded a season-worst 11 hits in Los Angeles' 14-11 loss at Texas on Tuesday. The 32-year-old, who was 4-1 while allowing five runs in his previous five starts, is 5-3 with 2.21 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in 10 home outings. Wilson is 2-3 with a 3.52 ERA in 15 appearances (five starts) against the Blue Jays, with former Angel Maicer Izturis (11-for-31, three doubles) his toughest out in the lineup.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Angels' Mike Trout has reached base in 34 consecutive games.

2. Toronto is 5-11 since the All-Star break.

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
