Last Meeting ( Jul 31, 2013 ) Cincinnati 4, San Diego 1

The Cincinnati Reds appear to be on the rebound after a dismal stretch as they open a three-game series against the visiting San Diego Padres on Friday. Cincinnati swept a two-game series from the Oakland Athletics after being mired in a tailspin in which it lost seven of nine games – including two of three games in a visit to San Diego. The Padres were swept by Baltimore in a two-game set and are beginning a six-game road trip.

Padres outfielder Carlos Quentin has missed six consecutive games and could be headed to the disabled list if the team deems he won’t be available for the Cincinnati series. San Diego is also without All-Star shortstop Everth Cabrera after he drew a 50-game suspension for his involvement in the Biogenesis scandal. Cincinnati has a 4 1/2-game lead over the Arizona Diamondbacks in the battle for the National League’s second wild-card berth.

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
