Last Meeting ( Aug 13, 2013 ) San Diego 7, Colorado 5

The San Diego Padres will try to keep their momentum going on offense when they visit the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday afternoon in the finale of their three-game series. The Padres improved to 4-11 against the Rockies in 2013 with a 7-5 victory Tuesday, a run total they achieved in the previous three games combined. San Diego averaged 2.6 runs and was 11-for-107 with runners in scoring position in its previous 13 contests before going 3-for-7 in that situation Tuesday.

The Rockies, who had their four-game winning streak snapped, continue to get little production out of their best active offensive player, Troy Tulowitzki. The All-Star shortstop is 2-for-28 in his last nine games, but even with slugger Carlos Gonzalez on the disabled list, Colorado has averaged 7.6 runs in its last five contests. The Rockies' Jorge De La Rosa - 7-1 with a 2.59 ERA in 11 home starts - will oppose Andrew Cashner, who had a three-start winning streak snapped in his last outing.

TV: 3:10 p.m. ET, MLB Network, FSN San Diego, ROOT (Colorado)

PITCHING MATCHUP:
Padres RH Andrew Cashner (8-6, 3.87 ERA) vs. Rockies LH Jorge De La Rosa (11-6, 3.26)

Cashner allowed five runs (three earned) and seven hits in five innings in a 7-2 loss at Cincinnati on Friday. The 26-year-old yielded a combined eight runs and 14 hits in victories over the New York Yankees, Arizona and Milwaukee in his previous three starts. Cashner is 0-2 with an 8.27 ERA in eight games (three starts) against Colorado, including a 5-4 loss July 10 when he yielded three runs (two earned) and eight hits in five innings.

It appeared De La Rosa wouldn't last very long in his last start when he allowed singles to six of the first 10 batters against Pittsburgh on Friday. The 32-year-old buckled down and yielded only two more hits and wound up working five innings in Colorado's 10-1 victory. De La Rosa is 6-2 with a 5.12 ERA in 18 games (14 starts) against the Padres, including 2-0 with a 3.38 ERA in three outings against them this season.

WALK-OFFS

1. San Diego CF Will Venable has hit in 10 straight games - matching a season high - and is 14-for-38 during that span. Colorado rookie 3B Nolan Arenado extended his career-best hitting streak to 10 contests Tuesday and is 16-for-37 in those games.

2. Padres C Nick Hundley, whose wife Amy is past her due date with the couple's first child, hit a two-run homer Tuesday.

3. Colorado is 53-53 versus the National League and 3-12 against the American League.

PREDICTION: Rockies 3, Padres 2

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
