Los Angeles @ New York preview

Yankee Stadium

Last Meeting ( Aug 13, 2013 ) LA Angels 7, NY Yankees 14

The New York Yankees went 12 straight games without scoring more than five runs before Alfonso Soriano had two homers and a career-high six RBIs in Tuesday's 14-7 romp over the visiting Los Angeles Angels. New York matched its season-high run total and looks to carry the momentum into the third of the four-game series Wednesday night. The Yankees, who have won three straight, seek their longest winning streak since opening July with six victories in a row.

The Angels have dropped seven of nine but will look to halt the slide behind Jered Weaver, who is one of their few players to perform at a high level since he returned from missing seven weeks with a fractured elbow. One encouraging sign offensively in Tuesday's drubbing was Mark Trumbo, who had a two-run homer among his two hits after going 1-for-25 in his previous six games. Shortstop Erick Aybar left Tuesday's game when he was spiked in the leg, but he said he expects to play Wednesday.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Angels RH Jered Weaver (7-5, 2.87 ERA) vs. Yankees RH Ivan Nova (5-4, 2.93)

Weaver ran his winning streak to four by limiting Cleveland to a pair of solo homers and six hits in his last turn. Weaver has permitted six runs during his five-start unbeaten streak and has yielded two runs or fewer in seven of his last nine starts to chop nearly two full runs off his ERA. He is 6-3 in 12 career starts versus the Yankees, but has pitched to a 5.19 ERA and surrendered 17 homers in 69 1/3 innings against them.

Nova is 3-2 over his last six starts but he has given up only eight runs in that span and the Yankees failed to score in each of the two losses. He turned in his sixth consecutive start of at least seven innings last time out, allowing one run and eight hits against Detroit - only to have closer Mariano Rivera blow the save. Nova is 3-2 with a 5.87 ERA in five career starts against Los Angeles.

WALK-OFFS

1. Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez and LF Curtis Granderson each have five homers off Weaver in 24 and 25 at-bats, respectively.

2. Trumbo is 8-for-13 with a pair of homers against Nova.

3. Angels CF Mike Trout is riding an on-base streak of 35 consecutive games.

PREDICTION: Yankees 4, Angels 3

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
